As the 2026 school year unfolds, several Utah education leaders are stepping into new roles — bringing deep experience, fresh perspectives, and renewed commitment to serving students, educators, and communities across the state. These leadership changes mark important transitions in both established and newly formed districts.
Leadership Transitions at CUES and Piute
Jason Strate, long known for his work in the CUES region, is transitioning from his role as Executive Director of Central Utah Educational Services to become the Superintendent of Piute School District. In his new position leading Piute, Jason will focus on supporting schools and strengthening educational opportunities for students across the district. Strate’s background as both an administrator and regional leader positions him to help teachers and students in Piute excel.
Stepping into the role of Executive Director of CUES is Andy Peterson, who brings a deep understanding of regional education systems and a commitment to supporting local districts in areas such as professional development, innovation, and student success. Andy began his career as a teacher at Aspen Ranch in Loa before transitioning into special education and homeless services. In Sanpete County he has served students at Manti High School, Gunnison Valley High School, Central Utah Academy, North Sanpete High School, Pleasant Creek School, and Snow College for the past 22 years.
Aspen Peaks and Lake Mountain Districts Welcome New Superintendents
In Utah County’s newly formed districts, boards have moved decisively to establish strong leadership teams:
Joel Perkins has been named the first superintendent of the Aspen Peaks School District, following an extensive search and unanimous board vote. Joel brings decades of experience in Utah education, including roles as a teacher, principal, and associate superintendent, and is widely recognized for his student-centered leadership and ability to build positive school cultures.
Vicki Carter has been appointed the inaugural Superintendent of Lake Mountain School District, with Amanda Bollinger serving as Deputy Superintendent. Vicki’s three decades in education and her focus on academic excellence and community engagement were key to her selection.
Joe Jensen has been named the first superintendent of the Timpanogos School District, bringing steady experience and a strong focus on students, staff, and community collaboration. Joe has built his career in Utah public education through a variety of leadership positions, earning a reputation for thoughtful decision-making, operational strength, and clear communication with educators and families. As he takes on this role, Joe will focus on supporting school leaders, strengthening instructional practices, and ensuring a smooth transition as the district continues to grow and evolve.
These appointments represent foundational steps in launching three of Utah’s newest districts, paving the way for strategic planning, staffing, and community partnership ahead of full operation.
Leadership in Grand County
In southeastern Utah, the Grand County School District Board of Education has named Matthew Keyes as Superintendent of Schools after a period of interim leadership. Keyes’ appointment — unanimously approved by the board — solidifies leadership continuity for the district as it plans instructional goals, community partnerships, and support services for students across Grand County.
Each of these leadership moves reflects a broader commitment to strengthening education across Utah. As these leaders settle into their roles, their collective work will shape strategic priorities, foster community trust, and support student achievement throughout Utah.
