September brings a sense of momentum and possibility to Utah's public schools. The excitement of a new school year is settling into meaningful learning, growing relationships, and a renewed focus on student success.
There is much to celebrate across Utah. Students are earning college credit through Concurrent Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses, exploring future careers through career and technical education and work-based learning, and benefiting from new opportunities made possible through innovative partnerships. Districts are also building on their commitment to early literacy and working toward the statewide goal of having 80 percent of Utah students reading on grade level by the end of third grade by 2030.
At the center of this work are the people who make our schools successful—teachers, administrators, counselors, bus drivers, food service professionals, custodians, support staff, families, and community partners. Most importantly, we celebrate Utah's students and the potential they bring to our classrooms each day.
For school board members, September is an opportunity to reconnect with the heart of public education: students. Visit a school, attend an event, listen to educators and students, and celebrate the successes happening throughout your district.
There will always be challenges and important decisions ahead, but September is also a reminder to share positive stories. Utah's public schools are filled with innovation, dedication, and possibility—and every school year brings new opportunities to help students learn, grow, and prepare for their futures.
